Crossfit Meets Yoga

Crossfit Meets Yoga

How it Began

Almost two years ago, a friend asked me to try a Crossfit class with her and I thought to myself “sure I will try anything once,” though sadly I used to think negatively of the Crossfit ‘cult’ and thought it was just a gimmick for people that weren’t really focused on true fitness.  I thought it was unusual how they yelled at each other and truthfully I thought the high socks they wore looked, well, silly.

I had been a yoga instructor for three years and I love everything about yoga, especially how I learned to sweat out my worries on my mat. I thought I wouldn’t like any other workout to the same degree… until I went to that ONE Crossfit class.

I quickly realized why they wear those silly long socks (after scraping my own shin), and why they scream at the last person finishing. It is truly all about a community and building each other up. From that day forward I started incorporating CrossFit into my regular workout along with yoga. I feel like I have found a PERFECT mix between strength, balance and flexibility –not to mention mental relief and peace.

After three years of doing Crossfit, I have noticed my strength has improved, which is especially needed for my arm balances in yoga and my core has become super strong because of all the specialized lifting and programming.  If you decide to incorporate Crossfit (or cross training) into your regime, day by day, class by class, you will notice the amazing things your body is capable of. Some of these include:

-Increased core strength

-Better endurance

-Amazing body awareness

-Controlled breath and focus

-Increased mobility & flexibility

-Becoming the best version of YOU

Becoming the best of who you are means being engaged in what you do, and sometimes that means going out and trying things you never thought you would.  When I think of mixing things up, this quote speaks to me; “If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine- it’s lethal.” -Paul Coelho

My yoga journey began after I had my second child. I attended my first Vinyasa flow class, and I was hooked. I wanted to share with others what yoga has done for me. In 2011, I went through the 200hr teaching certification program. Hot Power Vinyasa is my passion. It is a phenomenal cardio workout that will burn calories, strengthen and tone as well as sculpt your muscles. I am also a certified Level1 Crossfit trainer and a lulu lemon brand ambassador. I believe in overall fitness. My goal in every class is to be a positive influence to my students, I want them to reach their full potential and increase their self esteem.
