Let’s face it, no matter how well we follow all the suggested rules for keeping healthy, there will still be times when cold and flu germs are so prevalent that you are bound to get the sniffles or even a full-blown flu. That does not mean you need to rush to the doctor at every little sniffle or low-grade fever. It’s actually very important for your body to combat these germs head-on to build up your natural resistances to these microbes. Time and a healthy immune system are what eventually make a person feel better. Most medications merely mask symptoms and don’t actually cure the body of a cold or flu, as they are both viruses and basically our immune system has to win the battle.
These pesky germs, which are all around us every day, can only be invasive and take hold when our own bodily systems are compromised. It is when we are tired, stressed, run down and not our healthiest selves to begin with that we are vulnerable to their attack.
There are many actions we can take to Improve our overall defense against Infections. The obvious but sometimes overlooked are the following:
After the protective barrier of the skin against all the various living microbes in our environment, it is our immune system next in line as our defense against all germs and microbial diseases. Because most cold and flu germs are inhaled, it’s no wonder that the nasal passages, sinus and lungs become the site of infestation. These areas are moist and warm, making them the perfect breeding grown for these microorganisms.
What we need are reinforcements! Fortunately, there are particular essential oils that have similar selectivity as our own immune system, attacking foreign bodies that cause disease and infection to take hold. These naturally occurring essential oil compounds in these select oils are responsible for the breaking down of microbial cell walls, thus enhancing our bodies own unique defense against these bacteria and viruses.

Incorporating essential oils into your daily routine can aid the body’s innate immune system by providing powerful anti-oxidative actions against free radicals. These particular essential oils also nourish the lungs and aid with a preventative health care plan that will help keep a strong barrier of defense against the microbes that cause the cold and flu microbes to take hold. You can add a few drops of any one or combination of the above into a bowl of steaming water, place a towel over your head and breath in the vapors to clear congestion. You can add a few drops in the corner of your shower while washing up. If you want to create a chest rub or lotion using these powerful essential oils, remember to make sure you dilute them properly, as you would never want to apply these oils neat (directly) on one’s skin! We recommend no more than a 5-10 % dilution of essential oils to your 90-95% carrier cream or oil.
