6 Tips To Be the Best You

1.) Take time for yourself. Rest well, eat well, be well.  They say you can’t pour from an empty cup.  Self care and self love are not selfish.  Make exercise, nutrition and sleep a priority, not an option. Learn to say no when your mind and body need a break and never underestimate the power of some healthy alone time.

2.) Find a hobby.  Discover something that inspires you and helps you get lost in the moment.  Maybe it’s writing, photography, painting or dancing. Choose a pastime that stimulates and challenges you in a good way.  Creativity and freedom lead to self discovery.

3.) Unplug from social media.  You can’t compare your behind the scenes to someone else’s highlight reel. More and more studies are revealing that social media actually causes people to feel sad and isolated, the exact opposite of what is was created to do.  Take a detox; short (one day a week), extreme (30 days) or anywhere in between. You can set an alert on Instagram that tells you when you have hit the maximum amount of time you want to spend on the app!

4.) Don’t be afraid to fail. If you have never failed than you have never truly lived.  Embrace failure and put yourself in situations to live and learn often.  In life we don’t win or lose, we learn. When you get frustrated and want to give up remember, Thomas Edison failed 10,000 times before he created the light bulb.

5.) Speak (and think) positive.   To yourself and to others.  Science says we have anywhere from 50,000 – 70,000 thoughts a day. Most of these are negative because of the signals and distractions we take in around us. Quiet the chatter by praying or meditating on a nice thought.  When you talk to others, avoid gossip like the plague.  If someone is talking negatively, politely diffuse and re-purpose the conversation. It gets easier with practice.

6.) Never stop learning. We are always the student.  Sign up for courses in your field, attend workshops and read!  Listen more and talk less.  Surround yourself with inspiring people.  If you are the smartest person in the room you are in the wrong room. Stay humble and remember you can learn something from anyone.
