Many people don’t realize their gut is the epicenter of their mental and physical health. Not only does 70% of your immune system reside in the digestive tract, but an estimated one in five Americans suffer from symptoms of digestive irregularities. Symptoms including bloating, abdominal discomfort, gas, and yes even embarrassing constipation and diarrhea can be a sign your gut is in trouble!

Here are 4 tips for avoiding the bloat and maintaining a healthy gut!

 1.           Avoid artificial sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners linger in your stomach and can cause digestion problems such as diarrhea and gas. Avoid artificial sweeteners at all costs to protest the lining of your gut.

2.           Prevent Leaky Gut

Leaky Gut is a serious issue that is hard to diagnose. Leaky gut occurs when the lining of your small intestine starts to break apart and toxins like food particles and bacteria escape resulting in a plethora of negative symptoms.

3.           Make smart alcohol choices

Excessive alcohol drinking can lead to many digestive issues such as heartburn, inflammation of the stomach and can even increase your risk for small intestine cancers and leaky gut. An occasional drink or two is fine for your digestive system, but excessive drinking should be avoided.

4.           Stay stress free

Stress negatively affects your digestion system and can cause your colon to spasm or even increase the acid in your stomach leading to indigestion. . Stay stress free or participate in moderate exercise or yoga to relieve tension and increase endorphins.
